Expression of Tape
Expression of Tape: Using action fashion to construct outdoor wear
Andreas Eklöf, 2014
Abstract
This work deals with the development of outdoor wear. It explores how action fashion can be used as a method for making climbing garments by taping techniques. It is interesting because how tape, used as a close fitted draping technique, can translate the moving body into patterns and create new constructions. The aim is to explore alternative pattern construction and functions in outdoor wear for climbing, using tape techniques and the method of action- fashion (action fashion method). Cutting up and adding movements with a contrast coloured tape on a climber in action becomes the actual construction of the garment, making the body shape the garment in a more immediate means to create outdoor wear. What evolved were new asymmetrical patterns pieces since the function controls the placement of de- tails and the basic construction of the garments. The outcome of the collection shows possibilities of developing alternative working methods within out- door wear. The collection has functional garments that relates to functional apparel principles but with alternative solutions without losing its function. Expressing the method in the result has provided a variety of material combinations that propose different adhesive techniques in assembling a garment.
