Gathered Volume - Performed Man
Gathered Volume – Performed Man
Prehn Andersson, Joel. 2017. MA thesis
This work investigates the relationship between volume, form and material. More precisely this work aims to explore volume as a construction technique through processes of gathering in relation to sportswear materials. I do this in the search for new expressions in menswear and give alternative methods for already existing construction techniques.
In this project I work with the interrelations between volume and material connotations to create a tension between material and form, and the relation between volume and gathering as the means of a method for construction. The fundamental idea for the methodology is based on reducing the construction process to as few steps as possible to acknowledge the notion of simplicity in construction. So instead of focusing of multiple steps in the construction to find harmony in relation to the body, I focus on one action or fewer steps to define the garment.
Furthermore this method approaches draping from a perspective of the instant action which welcomes the unexpected as a part of the finished result. I believe that this perspective offers an additional example of the expressional possibilities that we have between body and garment.
